I Want This*
*This = my present experiencing
Acceptance of This provides a sense of peace and reduces suffering.
Wanting This takes it a step further by actively cultivating a positive feeling of ownership and joy in the present moment. This leads to a deeper sense of appreciation for life, regardless of the challenges faced.
Regarding your sense or absence of well-being, the options are as follows:
1. “I want this” (positive-active)
2. “I reject this” (negative-active)
3. “I don’t care” (neutral-passive)
- 1. “I want this” (positive-active):
This attitude reflects an embracing and engaged stance towards one’s current experience. There is a willingness to be fully present with what is happening in the moment. This can foster a sense of openness, appreciation, and active participation in one’s life.
- 2. “I reject this” (negative-active):
This attitude conveys a dismissive and resistant stance towards one’s current experience. It indicates a desire to push away, avoid, or control the present moment. This approach may stem from perceived unpleasantness, discomfort, or a belief that the current experience is undesirable. While it can provide a sense of protection in the short-term, it may also lead to increased suffering and disconnect from the richness of the present.
- 3. “I don’t care” (neutral-passive):
This attitude reflects a detached and disengaged stance towards one’s current experience. It suggests a lack of investment, emotional connection, or active participation in the present moment. This can be a form of emotional or psychological distancing, which may serve as a coping mechanism in difficult situations. However, it can also lead to a sense of disconnection, apathy, and missed opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
If we wish to live life to the fullest, the ‘I Want This’ option is best, of course!
Questions regarding ‘I Want This’
If your doubtful intellect is on high alert, read on:
When my exprerience is that I suffer physical pain, do I have to WANT This?
To answer this, we first have to understand that physical pain, particularly chronic pain, is almost always linked to repressed emotions. Repressed emotions are the result of repeated suppression of emotions that we did not want to express and show because we felt that it was safer for us not to upset anyone, including parents, teachers, lovers, priests and God. We felt that it benefitted us not to show emotions, that it was in our interest. We consequently started believing in a self-image that was not kind or good enough unless we pleased everyone around us to deserve the love we wanted.
That self-image destroyed our natural, spontaneous living experience.
We did not foresee these consequences, including related chronic pain.
As babies and toddlers we were too young to contemplate any consequences, and we were ‘trained’ and ‘educated’ to believe in the virtue of pleasing others at all costs.
We want to heal the pain, we don’t want pain, of course!
However, the healing starts when we no longer try to run away from pain and any associated, repressed emotions. The running away happens in many different ways which I will discuss seperately.
The idea is to not run away, but, in the contrary, be in unison with This – This being my current experiencing, my current movements and actions.
To live, move and act in unison, the most radical, effective statement is
‘I Want This!” Think it and feel it! To your surprise, things will fall into place, ending mental and emotional confusion, opportunities will come your way, and your evironment will love you more.
I Want This is non-specific
Non-specific means, ‘I Want This Moment’, whatever the specific content may be. The ‘Now’ (the moment) is the platform on which the specific content appears. If the platform is wanted, then handling the content is more effective because there is positive ‘Want energy’ fueling appropriate action.
I Want This is love, fueled with energy
When you want something, you are obviously attracted to it, you love the feeling of owning the Wanted. If you make this moment your love-affair, you own the moment.
I Want This is devoid of fear
Whereas conventional wishing something has a shadow side, the side of fear (‘I may not get what I want’), I Want This, this moment, is already fulfilling the Want. Here, time is not playing a role. Fear is only possible if time apparently overrides the I Want This – the moment.
I Want This is not a bypass
We bypass physical and emotional wounds from the past when we turn away from them.
‘I Want This’ (this moment) does not turn away from specific experiences, including any emotional wounds.
